Baseball Prospectus: Top Draft Prospects 2018

  1. Dane Grier (P, Long Beach State)
Grier shined during his season season at Long Beach State going 12-2 and striking out 170 batters over 132 innings. Grier features a fastball that tops out in the high-nineties.
  2. Ronald Acuna (CF, Venezuela)
Ronald Acuna gained draft eligibility through a waiver-process with the league office. Acuna has plus speed and the potential to be an impact bat at the top of the order. He’s the type of player teammates enjoy having around in the clubhouse.
  3. Jared Stevens (SS, Coastal Carolina)
Jared Stevens was a Golden Spike finalist enroute to winning Conference Player of the Year. Stevens is a speed demon who possesses an ability to also hit for power. Some questions arise about his readiness, but no one doubts his potential.
  4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (3B, Canada)
Much like his father, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a player opposing pitchers fear. He hits for both average and power and could one day be the cornerstone of a lineup. Defensively, Guerrero Jr. has one of the strongest arms in the draft class.
  5. Adam Smith (SS, Lakeview Centennial HS)
Adam “Smitty” Smith is a joy to watch play shortstop. He has excellent range to go along with soft hands and an unbelievable arm. Smith’s .454 batting average played a pivotal role in helping the Lakeview Centennial Patriots to a championship in Garland, Texas.
