The Captain’s Log – May 7, 2017

MLB Pro Mariners -- The Captain's Log

Welcome to The Captain’s Log… a look at the week that was for the MLB Pro Seattle Mariners.

This week’s “Captain”: 3B Garin Cecchini (1x Captain) – Cecchini has really come into his own in 2017, and was the hottest hitter for the Mariners last week batting .429 with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, and 8 RBI’s.

This week’s “Chief Engineer”: SP Jordan Zimmerman (1x Chief Engineer) – After coming over from the Miami Marlins in the offseason, Zimmerman has shined in his first season in Seattle. Last week specifically, Jordan shut down the Tribe going 8 strong innings, giving up 2 hits, no runs, while striking out 8.

This week’s “Deck Hand”: DH Geraldo Rodriguez (1x Deck Hand) – Like Cecchini, “G-Rod” also had a monster week out of the 9-hole for the Mariners, with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs to go along with a .348 average for the week.

This week’s “Bait Boy”: 2B Chad Scott (1x Bait Boy) – Back-to-back weeks with a Mariners rookie taking the “Bait Boy” award, as Chad Scott struggled mightily with 2 hits in 26 plate appearances last week good for an .083 batting average. The OBP machine has struggled all year with his batting average (.202) but has hit the ball hard when he makes contact (6 doubles) and also has more walks (20) than strikeouts (19).
