Sources close to the family of Washington Nationals owner Ted Lerner reported to the press that he had passed away early today in a Washington hospital after a short illness. Cause of death was undetermined at this time. Funeral arrangements are pending. “The Lerner family is mourning its tragic loss and asks for privacy during this very difficult time,” the Washington Nationals said in a statement. Persons close to the family and the club said Fred Lerner, son of the deceased owner, would replace his father. Young Lerner is known as a fiscally economizer and lenient in personality.
