White Sox Trade Block (June)

The Chicago White Sox continue to look to move our veteran players in favor of prospects and minor league depth as we continue our rebuild.

The following players are actively available for trade...

SP Gio Gonzalez (ML)

+ Gio is on a one year contract with a player option for 2019.  He is due $25m for 2018 and his option for 2019 is $17m.  The White Sox are willing to retain as much as 75% of his salary (which would cover this year and next if he takes his option) for the right deal.  We are looking for prospects of any type, no veterans, and we're not willing to take on any salary in the deal considering we're willing to retain so much salary of his.

SP Matt Cain (ML)

+ Like Gio, Cain is on a one year contract with a player option for 2019 ($11.1m and $9.1m respectively).  Also like with Gio, we are willing to retain as much as 75% of his salary in the right deal.  We are looking for prospects of any type, no veterans, and we're not willing to take on any salary in the deal considering we're willing to retain the bulk of his salary.

RP Edgar Escalona (ML)

+ Solid middle relief pitcher.  Has 4 pitches and 1.98 ERA so far this season.  31 years old, earning $1.1m.  Seeking a single prospect in return.

RP Tom Wilhelmsen (ML)

+ Top-flight stuff with two plus-plus pitches.  Hasn't had the greatest start to the year but has a .414 BABIP so he's also been very unlucky.  Had a 2.97 FIP last season split between Dodgers and Miami.  We are willing to retain 100% of his $2m contract (free agent at the end of the season) to get a prospect in return.

RP Bobby Jenks (ML)

+ 37 years old but still an excellent middle reliever.  A 1.56 ERA since coming to the White Sox in late April.  Zero home runs allowed the entire season. 4 pitches.  Earning $1.1m this season and a free agent in the offseason.  Again, we are willing to retain his entire salary to get a solid piece in return.

Left-handed RP Jacob Diekman (ML)

+ Effective left-handed specialist, earning only $535k.  Also has 4 pitches, great pick up for a contending bullpen needing a lefty.  Looking for a single piece in return.

Left-handed RP John Gast (ML)

+ Another solid left-handed specialist.  4 pitch reliever earning $2.4m this year (still in his arbitration years).  Left-handed hitters are hitting only .189/.283/.302 this season over 60 plate appearances so plenty sample size.  Looking for a single prospect in return.

1B Chris Marrero (ML)

+ 1B/LF/DH who slugs against left-handed pitchers.  Hitting 375/394/656 for a 1.050 OPS against LHP this season.  His full salary says $2.64m but the bulk of it is being retained by two former organizations, so any takers are only on the hook for $792k.  Again, looking for a single prospect in return.

RF Yoan Alcantara (ML)

+ A 25 year old still reaching his potential.  The #18 prospect in our top 20 and in his first year at the Majors.  Hitting 254/287/434 so far this season.  Also has ability for stealing and aggressive base running.  Looking for a prospect or a couple pieces of minor league depth in return.

2B DJ Fitzgerald (AAA)

+ Veteran second baseman on a minor league contract.  Stash him at AAA in case of injury, or he could be a potential starting 2B for some clubs.  Hitting 319/424/465 at AAA this season.  Seeking a single piece in exchange.

2B Tyler Bortnick (AAA)

+ Veteran middle infielder.  Currently at AAA but on a Major League roster so I believe would have to be added to your 4 man roster.  Has a Captain's personality class.  Seeking a single piece in exchange.

RF Antonio Guzman (AAA)

+ Slugging corner outfielder.  Also has elite speed and stealing/baserunning abilities (80 across the board according to my scout).  Seeking a prospect in return.

SP/RP Joe Kelly (AAA)

+ Ground ball aficionado.  29 years old, $740k salary.  4 pitches, enough stamina to be a starting pitcher.  Seeking a single prospect in return.

Other players not on this list could be available but we're not looking to trade any of our prospects or the better of our young talent right now.  Still, feel free to inquire.
