A Pair of Youngsters Win Their First Batting Titles

Many talented MLB Pro players can go their entire careers and never even get a sniff of a batting title.

Nomar Mazara of theLos Angeles Angels and José González of the Milwaukee Brewers have each won their first batting title crown at the age of 22.

The Los Angeles right fielder batted .323 to capture the 2017 American League batting championship.

Mazara collected 171 hits, 31 doubles, 1 triple and 30 home runs for the year. In 142 games Mazara totaled 111 RBIs and scored 98 runs.

When asked about Mazara, Angels coach Rod Barajas said, “Nomar has been the consummate pro since the day he showed up here.  He has done everything we have asked of him and it is very exciting to see him perform at the high level that he has.”

In the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers center fielder captured the National League crown this past season, with a .331 average.

The star player collected 199 hits, 46 doubles, 4 triples and 19 home runs for the year. In 153 games González totaled 70 RBIs and scored 101 runs.

Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said this about González, “Jose is a great player and a terrific young man to have here in Milwaukee.  He embodies everything this organization stands for.  We are thrilled to have him here and are excited to see what the future holds for him.
