May Players Of The Month: Allen And Bird Take Home Honors

Dave Allen has been named the American League Player of the Month for the month of May. One of the best young stars in the American League, the Boston Red Sox shortstop hit .345 with 11 home runs, 19 RBIs and 30 runs scored this past month. So far this season Allen is batting .295 with 14 home runs, 26 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 71 hits in 241 at-bats, 27 walks and a .375 OBP. Allen has played in 59 games. The former top 20 prospect has already matched and exceeded his 2019 rookie season WAR of 2.5.

Greg Bird mauled enemy pitching all month long as he cruised to the National League Batter of the Month title. Bird batted .325 with 13 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored in a May performance that has New York fans eagerly awaiting what he can do in June. The Mets acquired Bird from Atlanta on May 14th and it has taken Bird no time to figure things out in his new home. In just 44 AB’s with the Mets, Bird has hit 6 homers and driven in 13 runs.
