Rays Recap (7/28) – Hunter Johnson Back In the Win Column

Tampa Bay: The Rays got a nice start from Hunter Johnson to take down the Yankees, 3-1. Johnson struck out 6 over 7 innings to improve to 5-7. Jon Roberts got the save, his 24th. Devin Mesoraco hit a sac fly and had an RBI single.

Minor League Notes

  • 1B Cam Randall doubled and homered (10) for Montgomery in a 6-0 winIn that same game
  • SP Ethan Reed moved to 9-2 with 8 K’s over 5.1 innings. Reed, jumping from low-A to AA this year has struck out 133 in 116 IP and has a 2.70 ERA.
  • Also in that game, Jorge Martinez struck out 7 of the 9 batters he faced in 3 perfect innings. His ERA is down to 1.84 and he has 68 K’s in 54 IP.
  • 3B Austin Shenton hit 2 more doubles (16) for Charlotte in their 6-0 win. He drove in 4 and in 59 games there he’s driven in 45 with an OPS over .900.
  • 1B Evan Waxman had 2 more hits for Bowling Green in their 9-1 win. He’s up to .309 now, with an OBP of .374.
  • The top 4 teams in the minor league organization each currently sit in 1st place
