Yamamoto Makes History with No-Hitter Against Dodgers

ARLINGTON, TX — Globe Life Field turned into a cathedral of baseball brilliance on Saturday night, as Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered one of the game’s rarest feats — a no-hitter — in a 3-0 Rangers victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In just his fifth start with Texas, the 26-year-old right-hander showcased the electric stuff and calm demeanor that made him one of the Rangers’ prized offseason acquisitions. Over 113 pitches — 62 of them strikes — Yamamoto struck out six, walked five, and kept the Dodgers hitless through nine innings.

“Man, what a performance,” said Rangers manager Eric Wedge. “I don’t think they could have hit him with a howitzer today. He was locked in. You could see it from the first pitch. Just complete command.”

From the moment he took the mound, Yamamoto worked with pace and confidence, refusing to back down from a dangerous Dodgers lineup that tested him with disciplined at-bats and long counts.

“I’m just glad to be here,” Yamamoto said through a translator. “Today I just went right at the Dodgers as hard as I could, as long as I could. The defense had my back, and Cam [Gallagher] called a perfect game. This is a memory I will carry with me forever.”

Behind the plate was catcher Cameron Gallagher, whose mix of fastballs and off-speed sequencing played a critical role in keeping the Dodgers off-balance.

“I could feel he had something special early,” Gallagher said. “We stuck with our game plan, stayed aggressive when we had to, and trusted his stuff. He just kept pounding the zone. My job was to stay out of his way and make the right calls. This was all Yoshinobu tonight.”

The final out came on a routine ground ball to shortstop. As the throw to first hit leather, Gallagher sprinted to the mound, where Yamamoto was swarmed by his teammates in a euphoric celebration.

Yamamoto’s ERA now sits at a sparkling 2.22 on the season. The win was his first in a Rangers uniform, improving his record to 1-2.

“It’s not just about the no-hitter,” Wedge said. “It’s the confidence he gave this team tonight. This guy’s a gamer.”

As fans filed out of Globe Life Field still buzzing from the magic they witnessed, one thing was certain — April 19, 2025, now belongs to Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
