The Toronto Blue Jays have fired manager Dave Magadan.
A search for a new manager has commenced and we expect someone to be hired in the coming days.
The ownership groups issued the following statement regarding Magadan, “[Magadan] has led this team to great heights, but frankly not high enough. This season seemed to be trending towards yet another disappointment in Toronto and so we thank Dave for his service and look to a new direction.”
Dave Magadan first arrived in Toronto in 2014 where he served as the team’s hitting coach for two seasons. Upon being given the manager spot in 2016, he guided the Blue Jays to a 105 win season. With the top record in all of baseball, the Jays marched to the American League Championship Series where they came up short against the Los Angeles Angels in a hard-fought six-game series.
After missing the playoffs in 2017, ownership gave Magadan the pieces he needed in 2018 in what began a three-year run of playoff appearances. During that time, the Blue Jays made two more ALCS appearances.
While 2021 began in decent fashion, recent play did not meet the standards and expectations set forth by this organization.
