Silver Linings: Andrew Payne

The White Sox selected OF Andrew Payne in the 3rd round of the 2020 Amateur Draft.  At 19 years old, in what the White Sox have designated as their upper rookie league (of our 2 rookie league teams), Payne this season is hitting 403/488/806 for a 1.294 OPS and 228 OPS+.  It’s also good for a .563 wOBA and .403 ISO.  All 20 games and 86 plate appearances.  While Payne doesn’t project to be much of an outfielder, and has shown no real growth at the RF position in his time spent there this season, his bat thus far is showing promise for a DH role at the very least, and the White Sox are likely to promote him to A-ball Kannapolis before the minor league season ends.
