Gray Goes Wild – Cycle & 6-Hit Day

Tuesday, July 20th, 2021

It was a quite a day for William Gray at Tropicana Field.

He hit for the cycle, belting out every kind of hit there is — a single, double, triple and home run. The Tampa Bay second baseman accomplished the rare feat during his team’s 9-8 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

“I think the Rays were stealing signs,” growled one unhappy Baltimore fan after the game.

After the game, Gray had this to say to reporters, “I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play. I never even thought about hitting for the cycle and what do you know, I did it. In the end though, the cycle really doesn’t matter to me, it’s the win that’s important.”

William Gray singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Lance Guy in the 6th, hit an RBI triple in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Gray went 6-for-6 in the game with 3 RBI and 5 runs scored.

It was the first cycle of the 2021 MLB Pro season and the fourth in Rays history.

Gray became just the eighth player in MLB Pro history to amass six hits, becoming the first to do so since Gary Sanchez on June 7 of 2018.
